- I worked in the oncology department(s) in the hospital. The oncology unit was quite nice. The staff was moderately receptive to travelers. Day shift was friendlier than night shift. The main issue was floating to any other unit was terrible. A lot of IMC/ICU travelers complained about being floated constantly. They also cancelled my extension two weeks before my contract ended which was a bit short notice. Overall nice facility though. My unit was the nicest by far. But the manager didn’t even have the courtesy to inform me herself they cancelled my extension last minute because they over hired, as a heads up she oversees multiple units including Dominican IMC. The facility is nice, the cafeteria food is food. If you work nights you can park in the garage, otherwise parking is pretty inconvenient. Most of my interactions with the doctors were unpleasant and many were very rude. They use Vocera which can be frustrating instead of having a phone to page or call anyone. They also use cerner. They are a unionized hospital that follows Cali ratios, so the ratios are good at least for med-surg and what I saw on IMC, I can’t speak for ICU. 05/24/2019
Housing was approximately 12 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Airbnb. Housing was located in city of Las Vegas. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 3. I used airbnb and it worked out okay - I worked in the ICU department(s) in the hospital. I worked in ICU, but spent most of my time in PCU. This is a beautiful hospital in a very nice area. The manager over ICU and PCU (some French chic, can't remember her name) is a sociopath who I avoided like the plague she is. I was there almost four years ago. It may have changed, but I doubt it. They can float you between any of the three campuses (Lima and San Martin) which are on different sides of Vegas. But if you are at Siena, you will not be floated because no one wants to work there. I know people who liked San Martin and Lima has a great supportive ICU, but most of the time you will be floated to PCU where you will be abused. I know Siena has an ED, but it was not uncommon to get a patient from them and start coding the patient on the stretcher. If you are the kind of nurse that has a tattoo of a heart on you chest that says "CARDIC NURSE" over it, this may be a good place. You are on your own. Charge Nurses are useless. I would not recommend it. 04/01/2014
Housing was approximately 10 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Remington Canyon. Housing was located in city of Henderson. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 4. Remington Canyon was nice, clean and quiet. I think the agency was paying about $900 per month (4 yrs ago). Return to top of page
