- I worked in the Emergency department(s) in the hospital. Unlike the other reviews, I was not floated nor was I allowed to pick up overtime. I do agree that there are some problem employees, but this is typical of any workplace. The city itself can get shady in certain areas (Hospital is totally safe, i ate "lunch" outside, alone during the summer at 0130). The surrounding area offers SO MUCH to do in the way of recreation. I made numerous friends that I still keep in touch with. Staff morale seems to be low due in part to management changes and staff turnover, but they're used to having travelers and appreciate when a traveler knows what he/she is doing and can contribute to the unit flow. 12/17/2014
Housing was approximately ... mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was private. Housing was located in city of Grand Junction. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. There are numerous housing options near the college, but stay away from Fruitvale, Clifton. The east end of town that merges into Clifton has trailer parks that frequently house travelers, but buyer beware; hide anything nice you have. The downtown is very nice, and the mall (on i-70B) has anything else you could need. Fisher's market (next to Fisher's liquors) was VERY pleasant to buy meats/eggs from. I would go back/recommend to a friend. Lastly, I found my own housing. - I worked in the CCU department(s) in the hospital. You WILL be floated to areas outside of service line and not in your contract. You will ALWAYS be the first to float rather than in turn with other employees. You WILL be expected to sign up for mandatory overtime. You WILL take call. There are employees who are extremely rude to travelers and management is aware of the problem and does not intervene. I was given a negative referral after having been offered a full time position. The town is great for outdoor enthusiasts. Skiing, hiking, biking, camping all readily available. Little to no nightlife. 11/30/2013
Housing was approximately 2 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was private. Housing was located in city of Grand Junction. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 3. Nice housing options are limited - I worked in the critical care department(s) in the hospital. nursing management expected things that were not in my contract. ( mandatory overtime, taking on call, being charge nurse without compensation and floating to med-surg unit) I was also scheduled to work every week-end. 03/27/2008
