  • I worked in the NBN, Peds, ED, CCN, NICU department(s) in the hospital. Home to Chuck Yeager and the Aerospace Walk of fame through the historic downtown; great access to the train to anywhere in CA, especially "down below" (LA); 2nd busy ED in CA due to referrals from all over northern LA county, especially pediatric emergencies; best breakfast and 50's diner is Katz 02/19/2017
  • Housing was approximately 2 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Apartments. Housing was located in city of Lancaster. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. On the edge of the Mojave Desert, which can be very cold when the sun went down, but was really cool to watch the lights and hear the sounds of the fighter pilot training across the desert at the military base (I enjoyed it!)
  • I worked in the CCU/ICU department(s) in the hospital. Do not come to this hospital! They have been extremely short staffed for many years. They recently underwent a strike for staffing/pay issues so the overall morale is awful. There are maybe a handful of nurses who are helpful but otherwise no real team effort here. For the most part, they do not like travelers at all because of the STRIKE nurses that were called in when they went on strike. There is a difference between the two! The orientation was useless. They were running around not knowing where travelers were to go, what the schedule was, etc. Then we were sent home super early because they weren't aware the education building would be closed and they would "figure out" a time to come back and complete the paperwork part. Charting system is McKesson Horizon Clinicals---no charting by exception here. They are supposed to be trying to switch to either Meditech or Cerner though. The pay is awful for the conditions you will be working in. Patient's are not difficult and they do have a nice variety of CCU patients. However, because of staffing issues and attitudes of some nurses and their unwillingness to help, you can be put in a very dangerous situation. Some nurses stayed over until noon the next day (17 hours) and were finally sent home due to legal issues. Is that even safe? I told them I will not be coming in for my scheduled work day the next day if I had to stay for that long. They honestly need to advertise the assignment as a crisis assignment with crisis pay. But then again, the hospital seems pretty stingy. 11/28/2016

  • in house garage was great since the temperatures get to 110 in the Mojave. 10/12/2009
  • I worked in the Labor & Delivery department(s) in the hospital. This was a VERY busy unit! I was very impressed with how they had services organized from Triage/Antepartum/LDR/PP/NICU. All Women's/Infant's services are in one separate building (The WIP - Women's and Infant's Pavilion). The staff was very receptive to me. I worked VERY hard while there, but made some life-long friends. The unit manager was a bit difficult to deal with, but I did my time and enjoyed the challenge. My biggest complaint is that their charting is all on paper!! Not very efficient! 01/02/2008
  • Housing was approximately 3 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Montecito. Housing was located in city of Lancaster. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. My furnished apartment was well appointed. All the necessities were there from forks to pillows! All I needed was food and toilet paper! The office staff at the complex were very kind and accommodating. Nice pool/jacuzzi. Laundry facilities were adequate, cable modem was available for extra cost...but well worth it when away from home!! Gated complex/felt safe.
  • I worked in the L&D department(s) in the hospital. very traveler friendly, easy paperwork, small town, not much to do but felt very welcomed by staff to go places with them, heard bad things about the safety but never felt unsafe 03/30/2007
  • Housing was approximately 1 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was westwood park. Housing was located in city of lancaster. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 3. had own garage that made it feel safer, gated complex, poor workout room, pool, very close to hospital, not cleaned well prior to moving in but that was rectified, free maid service once per week but only between 9a-3p
