- I worked in the tele department(s) in the hospital. This hospital was absolutely terrible to work in. Majority of the staff disliked me due to the fact that I was educated and I think they felt threatened. The hospital was inadequate as far as having basic working equipment available. I once had to walk to three different units JUST to find insulin syringes. There was ONE glucometer for the 40 patients on the unit, and split between 5/6 nurses. The staffing office also changed by schedule without my consent and then was upset with me "because the manager had to come in on a weekend and take patients," when I refused to cancel a trip I had planned for weeks. I would definitely not suggest this hospital to anyone for a travel assignment. 10/16/2012
Housing was approximately 8 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was found on my own. Housing was located in city of south beach. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 2. none - links/go.txt;25;25 01/14/2011
- This is a hard core place to work. The inefficency of the hospital makes it even worse. It's very old and poor, very outdated technology, old equipment(that always breaks), and the appearance on the inside of the west wing is just ugly. Due to lack of staff and because of all the residents, things are very slow to get done for the patient. (pt's wait days for routine MRI's and CT's and other procedures such and trachs and pegs.) The staff all over the hospital are stretched to the limit, on edge, and very rude at times. The hospital is in a bad location and the campus is crawling with homeless people. You have to walk a long distance and cross a busy street from parking to the hospital, and you have to pay about $43.00 a month for parking.
I worked in the NSICU department(s) in the hospital. Housing was approximately 10 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was self found. Housing was located in city of miami. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. I had a great learning experience in the NSICU. I learned to be very self-sufficent, especially turning pt's on my own! The staff are friendly and welcoming with travelers, but stressed and overwhelmed with their own work, and rarely available to help, unless a major emergency. The unit is very busy and their are lots of road trips to CT, etc. I had a horrible experience with the staffing office (Central Nursing Office). They are responsible for time sheets and turning in your time. There were several occasions I was not paid on time because they did not turn my time in, particularly because of Crystal and Cathy Griffin. They have ONE time puncher for a 1500 bed hospital!. Every traveler, agency, and pool nurse has to clock in here! It is a disaster, I was late several times, waiting in a line out the office door just to clock in between 0653 and 0700 ONLY!
