  • I worked in the Tele (Pulm/Renal) department(s) in the hospital. St.Joseph Hospital of Orange was a great place to work. Orientation was sufficient and if you felt uncomfortable or felt you needed more unit orientation they provided it with no issue. This hospital should be upgrading to Epic soon which will make working there more pleasant. It’s an older hospital but clean and security office is right inside the parking garage so it feels safe even going out to your car on break on night shift. The manager of the Pulmonary/Renal department was very nice and professional and made sure to check in with travelers, even night shift travelers regularly. I think I spoke to him at least every other week. No self scheduling but if you needed an adjustment made, the manager and lead nurses were usually helpful to move your days around. There are two full time leads who don’t take pt’s, like extra managers which could be intimidating but the nightshift leads were gems, so nice and helpful. In addition, there was always a resource nurse who was just a regular staff nurse who took no patients but helped everybody with challenging assignments, blood sugars, transfusions or any other task. It was heavenly having a resource nurse. I wish this could be nationwide. Ratios are respected. The most challenging aspects for me were charting with meditech just because it’s so old and this was my first time using it but you do get the hang of it (still hate it) and even worse than meditech were the nights when a younger advanced practice RN would be charge because they were not helpful, clique-ish and bullying unless they thought you were cute/fun and hung out with them on the weekends. Floated often here but I preferred it over working the Pulm/Renal extension unit since the rude young nurses (my age) usually were charge upstairs there; most of the nurses there are SUPER great to travelers and the aides are so diligent. When they get Epic, this place will be unstoppable. 01/11/2021
  • Housing was approximately 5 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Airbnb. Housing was located in city of Orange, CA. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. I stayed in multiple Airbnb’s during my stay and eventually a month to month Pool house of a friend of a friend. All the Airbnb’s were excellent. Orange County CA is a cool place, is very residential and traffic can be horrific but you don’t have to go very far to do or get anything, you can basically stay in town and get anything you need. Disneyland is very close and there is SO MUCH amazing food to choose from in Orange and Anaheim.
