  • I worked in the ER department(s) in the hospital. THERE IS HARDLY ANYTHING IN THIS TOWN. IT IS OVER AN HOUR TO OKC....This is a critical access hospital. (4 bed ER and 20 beds med/surg)The hospital requires that you be trained on EPIC for both med/surg and the ER side. They provide the training in OKC. The EPIC training is very thorough -- take advantage of this training because a lot of Midwest hospitals use EPIC but want you to have the training and experience already. The hospital is old and a lot of their stuff seems old school, but they almost always had what was needed to take care of pts. It is hard to get an ambulance to transfer a pt into OKC. It is not unusual to have to call a helicopter to transport your pt out of the facility. Lots of frequent flyers! The busiest time of the day is between 5p and 3a. Admissions arrives at 7a and leaves at 11p during the week and on the weekends they arrive at 1p and leave at 9p so you will have to register pts quite frequently. Nurses are required to know nearly all job aspects of the hospital. LOTS OF NONCOMPLIENT PTS. No docs on site. only 1 NP or PA at any given time. Must be confident with working mostly on your own. ALL staff here are super friendly are happy and willing to help you succeed at this facility. 01/07/2016
  • Housing was approximately varies mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was long story. Housing was located in city of long story. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. On my first contract to Watonga I took my RV and stayed at the Watonga motel because they have rv park (405/month for full hook up).my second contract the following year I stayed at the local motel, in OKC, in Yukon and stayed at the hospital. Watonga has a couple of hotels that are owned by the same local friendly family. I had a bad/scary experience there at one with drunks and druggies outside my door, so I did not ever stay there again. I stayed at various hotels in OKC or Yukon. I used priceline bidding on hotels to get the best deal. Administration will let you sleep at the hospital too and I did that quite frequently.
