- I worked in the 7M PCU department(s) in the hospital. 12/17/2018
Housing was approximately 5 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was The Pines. Housing was located in city of Roanoke. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 5. - I worked in the MS/TELE/PCU float pool department(s) in the hospital. I worked in the resource pool and floated to medsurg, tele and pcu. Most of the staff was very open to travelers, the few that were aprehensive warmed up after a few weeks. They definitely allowed me to improve my skills, I had to redo my skills checklist when I left- I learned a ton! I liked the technology - they use EPIC! PCU units use alaris pumps, MS units use plum. Parking was free in a garage. This is a teaching hospital. They use a text paging system on the computer that was very user friendly, it allowed nurses to send messages to doctors when callback wasn't needed. They were converting to carrying iPhones when I left. Medsurg ratios were 4-6:1, pcu 4-5:1 on days. They have nursing assistants that are very well trained, a monitor tech or secretary and a charge nurse. Schedule choices were emailed to the manager in 6 week intervals, minor changes made if needed- but very flexible. The staffing office was easy to work with, and they staffed a resource nurse or 2 that would come to the floor if you needed backup or had a patient upgrading. Overall- stayed 9 months, loved it, and will definitely be returning some day! 03/31/2017
Housing was approximately 10 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was apartment. Housing was located in city of Roanoke . On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 4. Several 3 month lease housing options in the area. - I worked in the Emergency department(s) in the hospital. I was here only a short time. My first day a joke. L*z in charge of travelerst insisted on telling me how much she hated her job. They put with new grads gorn"orientation" and by orientation I mean you walk around aimlessly because they are such a joke they didn't even have a preceptor for me. Didn't give 1st day instructions until I ARRIVED at the facility. Never even met the manager. All nurses were overwhelmed and felt the need to tell me how much they hated each other. I would NEVER go back to this "hospital" I would starve and die living in a cardboard box before dealing with this DISorganization. In one word......PATHETIC. Also, they told me to document well on restraints due to several deaths. Good job RMH. They needed travelers like a year ago, the number of staff on orientation exceeds the number of permanent staff. 11/17/2015
Housing was approximately 20 mile(s) from the hospital. The name of the housing complex was Arranged own housing . Housing was located in city of Roanoke . On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate it a 1. Housing is terrible. Basically this is the worst assignment I ever agreed to. After the first day I knew this was totally unsafe. Return to top of page
