    1. I have had so many issues with this company.
      1) paycheck time. I submitted my paycheck on time EVERY WEEK and every week like clockwork, they emailed/texted saying “hey we couldn’t find your timesheet in our emails can you send it again” EVERY. WEEK. I did get paid and no paychecks were missed but I had to resend them every week to make sure they got it .
      2) my recruiter submitted me to an assignment WITHOUT TELLING ME. I was trying to work with another agency due to seeing how much less American traveler pays compared to other companies. She submitted me without telling me, blew up my phone asking why I wasn’t responding to this job offer and I told her I was going with another company due to them paying more and she begged me to stay over and over asking why I didn’t want to work with her and what was wrong. It seemed a little desperate. I told her I wanted to make more and she told me she’d match the price and do whatever it took to keep me. The submission was behind my back after I directly stated I didn’t want to be submitted to that hospital. Turns out I couldn’t go through my preferred company to keep my job offer so I chose to stay with American traveler due to not wanting to lose my offer.

      3) I got insurance through the company, NEVER got the cards mailed to me after 2 months of working with this agency, and I have asked over 6 times repeatedly, speaking to my recruiter and others I’ve emailed about how I needed my insurance cards for my yearly eye exam. To this day I still have not gotten the cards mailed to me and it’s about to be 3 months I’ve been working with them.

The only good thing is my recruiter was readily available and responded pretty quick, but I was overwhelmed and frustrated consistently due to having to do others work for them, trying to get my onboarding process done and having them email me FRIDAY AT 5 PM to provide immunization records, get up to date on my vaccines etc, by MONDAY AFTERNOON (knowing that weekends most doctors offices are closed)

It’s my first assignment and I’ve had so many issues, I do not recommend them at all, it’s not even that they offer a lot of money for assignments to make this worth it. Everywhere in my area I’m looking now for my next assignment they are offering well under 2300 a week and other websites are offering mid 3000s easily.

    2. I found out I was making about $1000 less a week than a lot of other travelers. Initially I was quoted about $500 more a week but then the recruiter said they paid less for first time travelers. Another girl from AT said they did the same thing to her but no one else said that happened to them. The unit I was in was basically half travelers and my recruiter said she didn’t know much about the hospital I was going to and later when she said I know that’s a “tough assignment” like she had heard about the hospital. The first week they asked me to renew my contract (I guess they do this quickly before you realize how bad it is) and I she encouraged me to go ahead and do this bc she thought I wouldn’t be able to keep getting these high rates (which Im not surprised it costs nothing in compliance for you to renew at a hospital and is much less work for them). I said I would only renew if they paid more bc then it wouldn’t be my first assignment anymore technically and I felt like covid was just going to get worse (this was October of 2020). She said they would pay more then sent me the contact and it was the SAME pay and I said this and she just sent back a text that said “yep! Congratulations!”. I knew immediately I would not be doing that second contract and found a different company. She tried to say I’d have to pay $2000 to cancel but when I talked to another company they basically said she wouldn’t be able to do that bc it didn’t cost them anything and it was just a veiled threat tactic recruiters use to try to get you to stay. I switched companies and I was so happy.

    3. My recruiter, Jake, is amazing. I have nothing but great things to say about him and American Traveler. I was a little shocked they are not on the top 20 travel agency list. Great company, great support, great choices of travel destinations. I wouldn’t work for any other travel agency.

    4. Overall the basics were handled professionally. Got me the “best” pay rate I could find in a low paying area. However, my recruiter was very pushy and I found communication to be unpleasant and pressured. Less reimbursement than other travel companies. Will not work with them again due to my personal experience.

    5. American Traveler has truly made travel nursing fun and easy! With the help of my consultant, it only took 48 hours for me to get multiple job interviews and offers.
I was also able to get the job I wanted in the location I requested. My consultant at American Traveler communicated with me everyday to keep me updated on job postings and offers. I was also happy about the pay and housing allowance Ameican Traveler offers. I highly recommend American Traveler to any nurse who wants to travel!

    6. I know I could make a little bit more money if I switched companies. I just love how attentive and responsive my consultant and everybody else is at American Traveler. Even down to the littlest housing requests or changing my mind and taking the stipend at the last minute. They are very professional and accomodating. I feel like I am important to the company.

    7. Joined this company for a travel assignment in central Florida. Everything a traveler would want and expect from a recruiter; this company has it

    8. I worked with them for 3 years before I realized how low their pay rate was. They wouldn’t match another rate even though I had two different contracts at the higher rate.
Assignment selection was fine, I went almost everywhere I wanted.
I initially worked with Shari (not sure she’s still there) and she was miserable to work with. She was dishonest and pushy. I then went with Amy Roll and she was AMAZING!! She honestly cares about her travelers. Is you decide to go with this company, definitely ask for her. She’s their one shining star!!

    9. My experience with Mikala and American Traveler could not be better. I feel as though my family and I matter when making decisions regarding staffing.
Everyone I have been in contact with at American Traveler have treated me with the utmost professionalism and care.
I could not be happier with this organization!

    10. American Traveler has been a great company to work with. I applied on a Friday and had a contract set up and signed within one week. They work very quickly and work for you. They a truly a great company and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to advance their career!

    11. American Traveler is a wonderful smaller company compared to the likes of AMN but this is what gives them the ability to really take care of their employees. The only real negative is there are perhaps fewer jobs posted at any one given time, but all jobs available are at quality facilities not just for quantity sake.Very professional experience so far and their included housing makes everything extremely smooth.

    12. This company acts as though they are doing you a favor by taking you on and allowing you to work for them. Not impressed with their go get em attitude, it’s as if they want you to do all the work while they reap the benefits, and they want you to be grateful and oh so thankful for them. Sorry but it’s a two way street. There are hundreds of companies to choose from and thousands of jobs. Also, because I was working with some other companies at the same time, I found out that some of the applications I had in on some job postings from American Travelers site, weren’t even available anymore. I wouldn’t recommend them or trust them. I think they leave up job posting that are already filled to make it look like they have a ton. Just not impressed at all.

    13. I worked with them for a couple assignments. They seem to be knowledgable and friendly. I had one issue with them. They required me to get some titers drawn for an HCA facility and they would not cover my bill of $500. I have no idea why it costed that much, but they had five titers drawn from me which they would not pay for. There are better companies out there. If this is your first travel gig, they will treat you okay but, you will not be getting the most competitive pay or support.

    14. Not too impressed with this agency. They kind of border on lazy and incompetent. It’s okay to make a mistake or overlook something once in a while but when it’s consistent you know there’s a problem. Let’s just say I’m glad they aren’t nurses themselves.

It also scares me how the recruiter I dealt with will call and email me like 5 times in a few hours about a non urgent issue. Then when I call her back she answers “Yes, I’m stalking you.”

    15. I did several contracts with them due to their reliability and friendliness of the staff. I had a couple of personal issues during my travels and they were very professional and accommodating. I did however finally feel the need to change companies. As others have stated, they are probably THE lowest paying agency out there. I am a 20+ yrs CC RN and I honestly, just needed to make more $. I asked several times for a raise, but was always denied

    16. Pay was lowest compared to what other travelers with other agencies were making. A few times, per diem allowance wasn’t paid. Had to email amd call a few times before problem was solved. When it came to signing the contract, very pushy, calling constantly. However, when it came to needing help or assistance, very difficult to get a hold of. Would not reccommend to other travelers. Worked with them for 6 months and glad I found another agency.

    17. This was my first travel assignment and I had no experience with travel nursing. I am a RN with 20+ years experience and a BSN. The bottom line – I ended up earning peanuts with this agency. I went to a hospital where there were numerous other travelers. Many of us became friends. Sadly, I discovered I was the lowest paid (by a significant amount I will add) along with having the least benefits. I called my recruiter about this. She was a great listener and very sympathetic, but useless. According to her, she had absolutely no power to do anything. She referred me to what I call the run around. I put up a valiant fight to right the wrong done to me. In the end I decided to move on and look at this assignment/agency as a good learning experience. It was that or go crazy knowing how I was hoodwinked. Now, I could go on and on about this agency and what they did in detail, but I believe one can get the general idea. Plus rehashing everything makes me feel really bad. Instead, I decided to pass along some very good advise I was given. Several of the other travelers I befriended had 8+ years experience traveling. Their advice was never talk to one agency. Pick a minimum of three. Then you wheel and deal between the three for the best pay and benefits for placement. This was the best of the best advice I was ever given. If you do decided to go with this agency make sure you keep track of your paycheck. You guessed it – my was short several times. Also beware of their recruiters. They are great until you sign and then all they can do is listen and refer you to someone else who will refer you on and on.

    19. This is my 2nd assignment with AT. I was so disappointed when I heard how much more other travelers made. I mentioned to my recruit that I met another traveler from our agency at the hospital that was on nights. I also asked her about pay differences I was hearing from other travel agencies (the other traveler from American traveler was not making much more than me so not a big deal there) and asked why there such a difference between agencies where we were making so little. I even gave her the option of “is it because it’s my first assignment” and it’s like a new employee? She was livid with me. Saying how unprofessional it was to discuss pay. I told her I don’t discuss my pay with others but that does not mean I don’t listen when hearing the drastic differences. She asked me the other travelers name which I did not even know as just met her and wouldn’t of given her anyway with the recruiters attitude. The next day I came to work the other traveler was actually crying as the agency actually called her (woke her up as she was on nights) and yelled at her for being unprofessional and discussing pay. I was so ashamed of getting her in trouble. I wondered how hard they must of worked to find out who I must have talked to as I didn’t give them her name. So I did take another assignment in their so called “top $$” New York and am making the same money as the “Texas pays poorly” excuse. Now looking for new agency. I also don’t like that I really don’t know my pay till it’s time to sign on the dotted line. They also discourage you taking insurance with them. So far this second assignment my pay has been short 2 weeks straight.

    20. I traveled with this agency to Phoenix, AZ in May, 2014. The housing was HORRIBLE! It took some yelling and complaining to the housing director and several hours of phone calls and leg work on my end, but I located my own housing and the agency paid for the lease. My recruiter was hard to reach, but when she needed something from me she would harass me. Calling up to 10 times in a day.

My 2nd assignment with them was even worse. I was given no orientation to the computer charting system and a full load of 5 critical ER patients on my 1st shift. The charge RNs would give me the bulk of the patients while other nurses had no patients at all. The hospital also tried to rotate my shifts working days and nights back to back (which was not in my contract). When I brought my issues to the agency my recruiter brushed them off saying “making a friend and it will get better”. I had to go over her head to the supervisor, but the could not remedy the situation. I ended up walking off the assignment because it was unsafe and the agency DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BACK!!!

    21. I have been strictly with this company and because they are so awesome don’t have any desire to look elsewhere. Love the personal contact and ability to reach someone and have my questions answered. Only one time was housing an issues and the housing person called me right back late at night her time to make sure I was safe and she worked over the weekend to get things done for my safety and satisfaction!! LOVE Kristin and Nance!

    22. My recruiter is always available to me. The housing dept manager gave me her personal cell phone when I was moving in on a Saturday once so I could reach her if I had any problems. I have never had issues with them that weren’t resolved that same day, usually within an hour or two. To be honest, most of my “problems” have been minor things that were mere inconveniences. My recruiter has been so gracious, I’ve left the agency twice but I keep coming back. What other recruiter calls to wish you well and check on you when you are with a different agency?! I recommend this company to every travel nurse (or potential traveler!) that I come across.

    23. So far, everyone I have came in contact with at American Traveler has been great. They are on top of all the paperwork you have to do and making sure you are comfortable with your assignment. I would highly recommend AT to anyone interested in travel nursing.

    24. AMAZING customer service. While we’ve never met face to face, my recruiter has become a valued friend. She makes me feel like I’m more than “just business” and that she’s really concerned about my best interests.

    25. American Traveler has been great to me. They don’t bother me every day, which I like!! They always take care of any issues or questions I may have promptly. I’ve been an RN for almost ten years and this is the first travel agency I’ve been with, great experience!! My family travels with me so housing is very important to me and Nancy at American Traveler couldn’t have done a better job on my housing!! AMAZING!!

    26. I have never worked with such an unprofessional group of people. You expect there to be a friendship and bond between you and your recruiter but they are all out to make a quick buck. No one cares how hard you work or what you have to offer. All they care about is how to screw their nurses and make more money for themselves. NEVER would i recommend them to anyone unless I want to see that person suffer. The management is extremely rude and will lie to you about anything they can to make you believe you are doing well. I found many other companys that offered to pay 300$ more a week take home with a bonus, while American traveler denied to negotiate at all. They left threatening voicemails and I will never work with them again. SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE HEADACHE.

    27. Kristin and Andrea at American Traveler are the best! This was my first time as a “traveler” and I was impressed with the ease of getting set up, applying for a job, and the transition into the assignment. I am retired Air Force, and don’t remember a smoother move and transition to a new environment as this was! I would recommend any nurse (young or seasoned) to experience the traveling nurse opportunity.

    28. I like how I can get hold of the reps easily whenever I need to. They are very personable and I feel like they really trying to get to know ME. My Rep has really tried to find positions that I would really like and close to home.

    29. If you know that another traveling coworker is getting a higher salary than you are for the same job don’t be afraid to ask your recruiter for an increase. They were great at American Traveler and investigated the details of why I was receiving less and fought to get me an increase.

    30. Very supportive to new travelers with many questions. Really feel as the company as a whole goes above and beyond my expectations. Couldn’t ask for a better recruiter.

    31. I have had a fantastic experience with all of my travel assignments What has been best overall is the housing and client service. My consultant is a true friend – we call each other all the time. Can’t wait to see where she recommends I go next!

    32. American traveler took advantage of my wife and I’s lack of travel experience. they led us to believe they were giving fair pay and housing when we signed the contract. when we started working there we realized that other travelers were receiving $10 more per/hr than us! I verified with manger that all travel companies receive same reimbursement from hospital. they put us up in a run down apartment in which there are no parking spots when we return home after midnight and need walk a mile, cross a dangerous street, and do not feel safe. when we threatened to leave-they stated they would penalize us $4000.00 and 2 weeks pay. which in total would have been more than one of had made in three months.they are inaccessible after we signed contracts and slow to respond to anything that does not pertain to their benefit. we would not recommend this agency to anyone looking to travel!!! our recruiter reminder me of a used car salesman. the strong intense of trying to get us to sign on the dotted line. and then….

    33. I am getting ready to start my second assignment with them, I have a great consultant, who always follows up, she usually even knows its me when i call, and answer emails on weekends too. The pay is Ok, but the housing stipend is very competitive from what i’ve heard from other travelers. Very patient with me, when i wasn’t sure when/if i wanted to take an assignment. Always efficient a easily accessible, insurance was Cigna, and got me a sign on bonus to extend my contract.

    34. My pay was very low but they did not have much available where I needed to be at the time. I did not get a paycheck on time and when the second week in a row and still no paycheck I had to threaten to call off before I got it overnight. They did not tell the truth about the facility and when I had problems they were impossible to get ahold of and did not return my calls. My recruiter was happy to sign me but there was very little suport on the job. One positive my grandmother passed away and they were very supportive then

    35. Pay is low, housing good,no insurance because ….., they keep me working place to place, assignments are great. my recruitor is wonderful gave me personal cell phone. I have to stay close to a certain part of the country and they work very hard for me to make that happen. wonderful company. Feel blessed to have run across them.

    36. +Great ease of getting rate offered and housing. No worrying about having to adjust travel allowance or housing allowance in order to get an increase in rate. If you’re offered $35 and you negotiate pay for a higher rate, you will not get less travel money or lower housing. Also, company will give you small amount of money on top of hourly rate if you do not take health benefits.

      – If your utilities go over there allowed amount per month then the overage is deducted from your pay check. Difficult not to do with multiple travelers in a shared apartment in areas of extreme heat or cold.

    37. great recruiter (it is all about the relationship with your recruiter). will continue to travel with this agency, but will go with another agency this time around for the higher pay. hope to work with this company again.

    38. I have had a wonderful experience traveling with this company although I travel alone with no pets and no special accommodations. I’ve had the nicest apartment complexes thus far in safe neighborhoods.
Paychecks by direct deposit have been wrong twice in a year which the company quickly corrected. My recruiter is either always available or someone else can be reached. Promptly return phone calls and reminders for forms and checklists that need to be filled. In the year that I’ve been traveling, my recruiter has gotten me everywhere I’ve wanted to go. Pay rate is probably not one of the highest however, but rather standard for the region, I believe, but I’ve always been able to pick up some overtime while working.
Thus far I have accepted 3 assignments with them, and extended on 2…..I will continue traveling with this company as my goal is primarily to see and experience different regions of the country, and I have not been disappointed.

    39. I am on my first contract, so I really didn’t know what to expect or had nothing to compare with. I found the hourly rate low, but the housing stipend balanced things out. The assingment is teriffic. I had gotten sick and was hospitalized the first week of orientation. My recruiter worked with my and the facility and everything went well after that. I feel lucky in that I read so many horror stories on the travel forums, that it’s almost too good to be true to get a really good company the first time around. I did use your site as a tool in selecting my company, so thanks are in order here. Dianne

    40. when american mobile was doing a horrible job taking care of me, american traveller was there to rescue me and let me work for a respectable company.

    41. Everyone is so helpful. When I had trouble finding housing because of the rural area, they bent over backwards to find me a place to live (house!) In addition to your recruiter, they also have a support staff assigned to each traveler and they call at least once a month to check in, and we can call them anytime.

    42. MY FIRST TRAVEL ASSINGMENT WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AS WAS MY HOUSING, HOSPITAL AND RECRUITER. I COULD not OF BEEN HAPPIER! UNFORTUNATELY MY RECUITER LEFT AND HER REPLACEMENT,THOUGH PROFESIONAL WAS NOT A PAL. THEY HAVE ALWAYS SEEMED TO HAVE MY BEST INTEREST IN MIND, AND HAVE LISTENED AND ACTED ON MY CONCERNS

    43. This was my first travel assignment. It ws great. Everyone was very helpful and I really enjoyed myself. I am traveling with them again and would recommend them highly

    44. This assignment started out a little rocky. The documentation department lost my paperwork, and did not tell me until I was on the road. I was given the wrong driving directions, and the housing department lied to me. On the good side, things worked out. I gained a lot of experience in the hospital they placed me in, and the appartment is located in a safe area, near the beach. I do love my recruiter, Anita Marquilies, she tried to fix everything!
