  • I worked in the Neuro Stepdown department(s) in the hospital. This is the most traveler 'unfriendly' place I have worked. You will get the most difficult patients while other RNs sit on their behinds and refuse to help and act like they don't see you busting you butt. There is zero teamwork on this unit; it is each man for himself. Very 'back biting' unit where most of the staff RNs can not be trusted. Protocols are very cumbersome and time consuming, for example a swallow screen has to be completed by the RN each shift...I could go on and on about the silly protocols they have. They work 8 hours shifts, so if you work a 12 hour shift take the day or night shift, not the evening shift (11-11) as you will get jerked around quite a bit. The only good thing is the doctors are pretty awesome here. Not too much floating as the Neuro unit a difficult unit and when you come in if they are overstaffed they will send their RNs home and you will get their patients. Parking is about 3 blocks away. Kaiser does not allow self scheduling and be mindful you will get the worst schedule possible. For example have a weekend off sandwiched between Friday and Monday working, or work 3 day weekend then one day off and work again. Rarely get 3 days off which is why we work 12 shifts right? Staffing office ok, but they will not work with you on scheduling. Overall if you have another choice go there. 02/22/2016
